Crafting culinary stories

Following the opening of our Toronto studio, the Manchester team proposed a photography project to bring colleagues from both locations together. We wanted to showcase Canadian classics – a challenge that leverages the strength of our food styling capabilities and the depth of our experience in the world foods aisle.

Canadian classics

Together, we handled the idiosyncrasies of working across countries and cultures, navigating differences in the dishes from one province to another and discussing everything from the overall aesthetic to the finest of details – all in order to create complete authenticity.

The project generated a variety of portfolio and social media content, from photography to videos and GIFs, all of which was captured during a two-day shoot.

Beautifully styled shots

Propping and styling were paramount, and the team carefully selected surfaces, textiles and props to subtly suggest an entire world off camera, hinting at the presence of friends and family members gathered to dig into a bowl of poutine or sneak a freshly baked butter tart from a baking tray.

Lighting was also used to set each scene and create the desired mood, with the team monitoring how dishes reacted to different tones and levels of intensity in order to maintain visual appeal.

Images with appetite appeal

By incorporating feedback from the team in Toronto throughout the process, we created a suite of engaging visual content that expertly conveys the flavours and textures of Canadian classics, getting mouths watering and stomachs growling on both sides of the Atlantic!
