Picture Perfect: A Year in Photography

As we approach the final frame of 2025, it’s time to develop our thoughts on what’s been a remarkable 12 months of growth, creativity, and collaboration for Equator’s photography department. From expanding our offering to building our dream team, here’s our year in review.

Expanding our visual horizons

This year marked a shift in how we approach photography at Equator. While we’ll always have a soft spot for the perfect pack shot, we’ve proudly expanded our offering to embrace the full spectrum of visual storytelling. Our team has been busy creating above-the-line content that stops consumers in their tracks, crafting social media stills that stop the scroll, and producing videography that brings brands to life online. It’s been exciting to stretch our creative muscles and work with clients on content that spans every touchpoint of their visual journey.

Building our photography powerhouse

We’ve welcomed some exceptional talent to the Equator family this year. Chris Kirkham joined us as Director of Photography for the UK, bringing his keen eye and collaborative spirit to our London studio. Meanwhile, across the pond, Isaiah Jay stepped into the Director of Photography role in Chicago, adding his distinctive vision to our growing US presence. We also celebrated Si Thompson’s well-deserved promotion to Global Director of Photography, where he now oversees all our studios with the support of Damien Thompson, our Cincinnati Photo Studio Director. This leadership team has been instrumental in shaping our expanded vision.

Sharing the story behind the shot

Our new Instagram account has become a digital window to our studios, offering followers an insight into everything from polished client work to wonderfully chaotic behind-the-scenes moments. We’ve also shared trend analysis and instructional videos featuring our talented in-house chefs preparing inspiring recipes. We have relished the opportunity to connect with our community in real-time and show that great photography is equal parts technical skill, creative vision, and knowing when to laugh at the inevitable spilled coffee on set!

Adding value through knowledge

Beyond creating beautiful images, we have committed to sharing insights that genuinely help our clients navigate the visual landscape. Our blog has become a go-to resource, featuring deep dives into impactful social media storytelling, the psychology of appetite, seasonal styling, and analysis of the trends shaping food and beverage photography. If you have any suggestions of topics you’d like us to cover in the New Year, don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Equator Photography, wrapped

As we wrap up 2025, we have to thank our incredible team whose creativity and dedication has made this year such a standout success. A huge thanks also to our fantastic clients who trust us with their brands and challenge us to create something extraordinary every single day. Here’s to capturing even more memorable moments in 2026.

Halloween Photography: Making the Spooky Look Stylish

Halloween is having a glow up. This seasonal occasion, once limited to discount supermarkets selling plastic toys and partyware, is now commanding attention from premium retailers as it evolves into a more sophisticated, adult-friendly celebration. With this shift comes a whole new set of visual considerations for brands looking to tap into the (polter)zeitgeist. At […]

How our Cincinnati studio is helping to fight food insecurity

Soon after our Cincinnati studio was established, the team started doing something quietly remarkable. After food and beverage shoots, rather than letting perfectly good product go to waste, they’d take it to local food banks instead. Over time, it became clear that the team would benefit from some extra support. That’s when our US Director […]
